To achieve the appearance of natural sunlight in the studio while maintaining soft, gradual lighting gradients on the bottles, a strategic combination of lighting techniques is employed. This involves blending a hard light source, which simulates direct sunlight and adds crisp highlights, with soft, diffused lighting to gently illuminate the product and reduce harsh shadows. Typically, between three and four carefully positioned lights are used to create this balanced and dramatic effect, enhancing the visual depth and texture of the bottles. This method not only highlights key features but also ensures a professional, polished look that is ideal for high-quality product photography.

Photographing on Location for Visy Retail Services: Wrap and Move x Bunnings

There’s a unique energy that comes with photographing on location, and working on Wrap and Move (Visy Retail Services) was a fantastic experience from start to finish. Our goal was to capture the full scope their items from packaging, bubble wrap and tapes, all while highlighting their expertise in protecting products as they’re moved from place to place.

This shoot was a true team effort, and I had the pleasure of working alongside the talented producer Kelly Ho. Kelly was invaluable in organizing every detail, from securing the ideal location to coordinating with the talent and nailing the overall styling. She ensured every element was in place for the shoot, creating a cohesive, professional look that told Visy's story at every angle.

To bring Visy’s mission to life, we scouted a dynamic location that would showcase the diversity of their products and be not too far from their head office—capturing everything from home moving scenes to the intricacies of on-the-move packaging. The talent we selected perfectly represented a young couple, giving an authentic, approachable feel to the shots.

The day itself went smoothly, thanks to a solid plan and Kelly's eye for detail. We kicked things off by styling the set to reflect Visy’s brand identity, focusing on creating visuals that felt clean, efficient, and streamlined. With the crew and talent on the same page, we worked through a variety of shots, from close-ups of the “wrap and move” process to wide shots that showed the scale of their services.

Overall, it was inspiring to watch the concept come to life through teamwork and careful planning. Each image captured the dedication and expertise Visy brings to every project, making it clear why they’re leaders in retail services.

Furniture Product Photography & Lifestyle Images for Melbourne based Online Furniture Retailer.

We spent a day in the studio photographing a series of images for Australian online furniture seller eLIVINGFURNITURE. Pre production involved working with the client on sourcing props and working out logistics to deliver the furniture and props to our studio in West Melbourne for assembly.

On the day of photography we photographed 4 sofas on a white background in various angles. While that was happening sets were being put together in another part of the studio.

Behind The Scenes: Styled Furniture Photography & Set Build for Square Living

In November we completed 3 days of photography for Square Living, who are a furniture retail store based in Derrimut, west of Melbourne.

Day 1 & 2 involved photographing all the furniture on white background for their online store. A week later we came back and photographed 8-10 styled set builds at their warehouse/retail outlet.

Professional Product Advertising Photography for POD Active 

POD active commissioned Photographer Ivan Lee for Melbourne product photography services to capture their redesigned K8 knee brace. Apart from the standard studio product images, they also required images leading up to the release of the knee brace. 

We spent a day photographing the knee brace on a white background for their catalogue in various angles and configurations and another day in the studio photographing the knee brace on a dark background.

Pre Production & Concept for Photography

Autoflo reached out to us for Melbourne product photography services to capture their electronic taps collection, contributing to their rebranding initiative. These new images will be featured on their website and marketing materials.

With several taps to be photographed as products on white & a series of stylised images we had to carefully plan the two day studio photo shoot. 

Ivan sketched out a few ideas to help everyone involve visualise each image and once concepts had been approved we had to gather materials for the sets which included staining wooden panels and plinths.

Principle Photography in our West Melbourne Studio

Day 1 was spent photographing the taps on a white background, we photographed around 10 taps with 3 angles per products

Photographing water with studio flashes with fast enough flash duration takes a bit of work. By using some of the trusted Profoto B1 & D1's we had to work out the right amount of power to get the fastest flash duration - roughly 1/3000th of a second to get pin sharp water splashes. In the past we have photographed liquid with very fast flash duration for wine photography.

A few months after the shoot additional images were required for 2 new products. We looked at a new concept different from the original Photo shoot. A special concrete looking wall was built for us made from a textured wall paper and MDF. With our large inner Melbourne based photographic studio we have the ability to build photography sets.
