Great Product Photography to Help Stand out from the Crowd on Amazon

Due to incredible sales from the last product photo shoot we did for our client, they have launch another item for Amazon. This time we planned for another 1/2 day photo shoot in the studio to create a series of images that will help them stand out from the crowd of egg carton sellers.

Utilising our large studio kitchen and few random props we created some lifestyle images and product images on white.

Furniture Product Photography & Lifestyle Images for Melbourne based Online Furniture Retailer.

We spent a day in the studio photographing a series of images for Australian online furniture seller eLIVINGFURNITURE. Pre production involved working with the client on sourcing props and working out logistics to deliver the furniture and props to our studio in West Melbourne for assembly.

On the day of photography we photographed 4 sofas on a white background in various angles. While that was happening sets were being put together in another part of the studio.

How to Create an Outstanding Listing to stand out from the crowd

When you have a great product to sell online there is a good chance your item will be in a crowd of hundreds if not thousands of similar products. How do you get your product to stand out of the crowd?

Paid Sponsor listing could be an option but you still need images to draw in a potential buyer. Good Photography with images that will grab the attention of your potential buyer is critical.

Showing your product in use is a great idea and helps potential buyers visualise your product. Image was taken in our West Melbourne Photographic studio. Our fully working kitchen is also a popular hire studio/kitchen.

Great Tips on Getting the Photos That will help your Product stand out

When approaching a Professional Photographer it’s best to have in mind what you desire from your images. Reference images and images that you wish to aspire to really helps point the photographer in the right direction and makes sure you are both on the same page.

Depending on the complexity of styling, a professional stylist may be required to source props and help build sets. Basic white background images would not require styling.

Making a list of required images for your listing with the photographer will also streamline the photography process.

Example:

  1. Product on white

  2. Product on white -different angle

  3. Product on white with packaging

  4. Product in package

  5. Close up/detail image of the product

  6. Close up/detail image of the product

  7. Product in use

  8. Additional product in use

Photographing your product with a drop shadow or reflection is a better option than cutting out the product (floating) and it avoids the over retouching look

Another popular thing to do is combining the product originally shot on white to another background such as a room or table purchased from stock image. Retouching is never right due to lens perspective and angles. It’s quite common to have rooms photographed at a wide angle which is the opposite to what the product is usually photographed.
