Mastering Product Photography: Creating Moody & Elegant Shots for Wick and Light Fragrances
When it comes to product photography, capturing the essence of a brand is just as important as showcasing the product itself. For Wick and Light Fragrances, a Melbourne-based soy candle company, we aimed to create visuals that felt as rich, warm, and inviting as their scents.
Our goal was to craft a moody yet elegant aesthetic—one that highlights the candles' luxurious feel while maintaining a sense of intimacy. While the final images may appear simple and effortless, the lighting process was anything but.
The Art of Studio Lighting
To achieve this refined look, we used multiple spotlights and layers of diffusion, carefully controlling shadows and highlights. This technique helped bring out the textures of the candles and their soft glow, making them look as mesmerizing in photos as they do in person.
Lighting plays a huge role in product photography, especially for reflective or translucent materials like glass. Too much glare can distract from the product, while too little light can make the image look flat. By balancing highlights and shadows, we created depth and dimension, ensuring the final shots felt high-end and captivating.
Why Moody Aesthetics Work
A darker, moodier approach to candle photography evokes warmth and coziness, making it easier for customers to imagine these products in their own homes. It also adds a touch of mystery and luxury, which perfectly complements the brand’s identity.
Through thoughtful lighting and composition, we were able to elevate the brand’s visual storytelling—bringing Wick and Light Fragrances to life in a way that connects with their audience.
