Industrial Product Photography Melbourne: Azano Motor Pump Shoot Case Study

Australian engineering firm Azano commissioned IJ Productions to produce a series of product images showcasing their motor pumps. As a product photographer in Melbourne specialising in industrial photography, the brief was clear: create photographs that not only document the product accurately, but also present it with enough visual impact to support marketing, branding, and technical communication.

The shoot took place on location in Azano’s Notting Hill warehouse. Working within an operational industrial space always brings its own constraints—limited room, existing ambient light, and the need to work efficiently without disrupting workflow. The solution was to build a lighting setup that could shape the product precisely while adapting to the environment.

A four-light configuration was used to construct the final look. Two battery-powered AD200 units were pushed through softboxes and further diffused with panels to create a large, soft key light. This approach helped produce smooth tonal transitions across the surfaces while retaining detail in the form and structure of the pumps—critical for both product photography and engineering-focused visuals.

To introduce contrast and definition, a Profoto 7B fitted with a reflector and grid was used as an accent light. This allowed for precise control over highlight placement, bringing out edges and adding dimensionality without unwanted spill. A Profoto D1, also with a reflector and grid, was dedicated to the background, giving separation and depth while keeping the overall composition clean—an approach often used in high-end commercial product photography in Melbourne.

The result is a set of images that balance technical accuracy with a considered lighting approach—ensuring the products are clearly represented while still carrying a strong visual presence suitable for marketing, catalogues, and digital campaigns.
